Mission

Sanctuarey creates transformative theatrical works that uplift marginalized voices, foster civic dialogue, and champion the enduring power of the arts to build empathy, resilience, and social change. We are committed to presenting bold, inclusive performances that amplify stories often silenced in mainstream spaces, nurturing a vibrant, equitable cultural landscape.

Vision

We envision a world where the arts serve as a catalyst for justice, healing, and human connection. In our future, immigrant contributions to culture, democracy, and innovation are celebrated and protected. Through our work, we strive to ensure that marginalized communities see their truths reflected on stage — honored not as exceptions, but as essential threads in the fabric of society.

Theory of Change

We believe that theater can break down barriers, change hearts, and inspire collective action. When historically marginalized and immigrant stories are told with authenticity, artistry, and compassion:

● Communities gain the power to reframe their narratives.

● Audiences deepen their understanding of structural inequities.

● Collective empathy grows, fostering a more inclusive, just society.

By producing works like BLOCK 25 — which spotlights political prisoners, displaced peoples, and immigrant experiences through a historical and contemporary lens — we create spaces for critical reflection, dialogue, and solidarity. Our programs aim not only to entertain, but to equip communities with the cultural and emotional tools to resist injustice and envision a better future.

In Denver, our theater arts legacy is defined by collaboration and shared dedication. Drew Dutcher, Magally Rizo Luna, Connie Sander, Phil Luna, Mary Love, Scott Spradlin and Elizabeth Rose Morales have been instrumental in shaping a vibrant creative community. Their professional insights and unwavering commitment have enriched our projects, underscoring our focus on building transformative cultural spaces that serve and inspire the community. Our shared commitment is exemplified by the creation of Crossroads Theater—a 99-seat equity playhouse in the historic Five Points neighborhood. Together we built a vibrant cultural landmark and created jobs and community. Today, our collaborative spirit endures as we work together to develop our next innovative theater space.

Immigrant - Coming Soon

Set against the backdrop of a fractured and volatile America, IMMIGRANT follows the story of David Anders, a white, middle-aged man who has always considered himself a model citizen—until the government informs him that he is neither. David, born at home to undocumented parents who neglected to register his birth, finds himself suddenly declared an undocumented immigrant.

With no official proof of citizenship and a lifetime of assumptions unraveling, he finds himself facing deportation to a country he has never known—or indefinite imprisonment in an immigration detention center. As David struggles to navigate an unforgiving system, he becomes entangled with a diverse group of immigrants—refugees, asylum seekers, and undocumented individuals—each with their own battles against a society that has decided they do not belong. Through their stories, IMMIGRANT exposes the harrowing reality that in a nation increasingly driven by fear, no one is safe—not just BIPOC, LGBTQ+, or non-Christian communities, but anyone who does not fit the rigid and ever-changing definition of "American."

Blending documentary-style realism with moments of poetic theatricality, IMMIGRANT challenges audiences to reconsider the meaning of citizenship, identity, and human rights in an era where the very foundations of belonging are under siege. In a time of political and social upheaval, David’s fight is a stark reminder that when systems of oppression go unchecked, they inevitably come for us all.
